Sandy Kim Cox, 69, of Tacoma passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday August 16, 2017, during a surgery to detect lung cancer. Sandy was born in Korea as Kim, Sun Chong on May 21, 1948 to her caring parents in Seoul. She is survived by her loving husband David of 38 years and her only son, Chang, both of Tacoma, and also by other family members throughout Korea and the United States. She was a cheerful person with a strong desire to learn new things and was devoted to her family and close friends. She met her husband early in 1979 on Guam and was married in the capital city of Agana on August 15 that same year. She traveled with her military husband to Air Force installations in Taegu, Korea, and other base locations in the United States including Minot, North Dakota, Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, and Oahu, Hawaii. She set up home in each new location and was well known for her tireless efforts in keeping her homes organized and spotless at all times. She amazingly learned English well enough to pass her test the first time and received her naturalization certificate of U.S. citizenship in November 1983, which included changing her name to Sandy Kim Cox. She held various jobs over the years at different places during her travels, but eventually became content to be a homemaker who looked out for the welfare of her family. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, and catching dungeness crab. She will be sorely missed by her family and all who knew her, but especially by her husband and son.
