Sandra Glover's Obituary
Sandra M. Glover was born on October 27, 1944 in Tacoma, Washington to the late Alberta and Eddie Richards. She was preceded in death by brothers Frank, Larry and Melvin (Hawk) Matthews.
Sandra departed this life on October 22, 2013 after a courageous health battle.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Christopher L. Glover, Sr. ; sisters Annette Giles, Bernice Richards, Patricia Richards; her brothers Eddie (Junie) Richards, Ron Richards and James Richards, stepsons Christopher L. Glover Jr., Stephen L. Glover; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends throughout Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Colorado, Florida and California.
Sandra attended McCarver Elementary/Junior High School and graduated from Stadium High School. She continued her education at Olympic Junior College and Pacific Lutheran University prior to graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Puget Sound.
Sandy’s avocation was her vocation, and she combined those passions by working on employment issues primarily by assisting others to become qualified so that they could find desirable employment. She began her employment with the Washington State Department of Employment Security (WSES). There she worked and managed a vast array of job-based programs, such as, Job Corps, a training program that helps young people learn a career, earn a high school diploma or GED, and find and keep meaningful employment. Sandra assisted dislocated, laid-off and/or terminated individuals who needed assistance in finding and qualifying for a new job. Sandy was sought out to serve as a “Loaned Executive” by agencies such as the Model Cities Program, Tacoma Urban League and received legions of accolades for her outstanding accomplishments.
While residing In the State of Maryland, Sandra worked in personnel with Prince Georges County. Following retirement, Sandra served on the Community Diversity Advisory Committee of Bates Technical College from 2005 – 2009 where she served a term as committee chair.
Thoroughly enjoying her retirement, one would find Sandra relaxing by reading books and experimenting with recipes from various food magazines. She loved to watch television. She thoroughly enjoyed watching movies on the American Movie Classic (AMC) Channel. She would frequently watch “Law and Order” reruns, “Murder She Wrote”, and, “The Pink Panther” starring Peter Sellers whenever it appeared on television. She liked to travel, often visiting nieces and nephews. She managed to throw in a trip or two to Disneyland and Disney World to visit some of her favorite characters.
Sandra will be deeply missed by family and friends. A memorial service will be held 11 AM, November 23, 2013, at Mountain View Funeral Home, Valley Chapel.
