Love you Grandma. Until we meet again. Give grandpa a hug for me :)
Nothing harder then the loss of your mother.........may you find peace and comfort in each other.
Sending sincere condolences. I do not know the family but I too have lost a close loved one due to cancer. What has helped me is the promise God holds out in His word the Bible of a time in the very near future when sickness and death will be done away with. May this hope bring you comfort. Dearest Sister,
As your oldest brother, just two years younger than you, I will miss you very much. We were the oldest in the Starr family and as such we got to have experiences none of the younger siblings were able too! For instance, we were given the nicknames of "Pete" and "Squeak" by our aunt Dode (Our mom's sister). Sandra was "Squeak"! These nicknames stuck with us up to our teenage years. As brother and sister we would fight like cats and dogs, but if someone else tried to push one of us around the other would jump in swinging. I remember it was our job to wash and dry the dinner dishes and one evening I took the dish towel and flipped Sandra on the rear. She chased me outside in the dark and as I ran around a pine tree I stumbled over the lawn mower. As I lay in pain holding onto my badly bruised legs my sister mercifully beat the crap out of me.
When Dad was in the Army, Mom used to take us on the bus to Brigham City, Utah where we would stay with our Grandma and Grandpa Hopkins. Grandma would sit between us on a big bed in the backroom and tell us one story after another. She not only told the story but she acted out the various parts and had a different voice for each character. Both Sandra and I looked forward to every visit at Grandma Hopkins. None of the other kids in our family got to know Grandma Hopkins as she passed away before they were born. I'm sure Sandra is sitting down with her children who have gone to heaven before her and listening to Grandma Hopkins tell her stories.
I know all you Chudy children know your mother was gifted with musical talents. I would have here sit at my piano when she came to visit and play for me. I want you to know however that as her oldest brother I was subject to a great deal of suffering, when at about the age of 16 she took up learning how to play the violin. Believe me it sounded like squeaking chalk on a blackboard in the beginning, but like everything Sis tried she got to be very good.
Sandra was allowed to have her own bedroom, as the rest of the family were boys, and by the time our youngest sister Karen was born Sandra had moved away Us boys felt like she was privileged and took every opportunity to reminder. This didn't seem to effect her one bit and she insisted we knock on her bedroom door and receive her permission to enter. She could dish it out as well as take it.
You Chudy kids had a great and loving mother as I'm sure you all realize, and I had a wonderful big sister. We will all miss her terribly, but we will remember her with love.
Lanny Starr
