Ruth Opal Richey's Obituary
Opal Richey died February 28, 2010. She grew up in Arkansas and married her high school sweetheart, Otis, in 1942. They moved to Shelton, WA. When Otis served in the Air Force during World War II, Opal and their firstborn, Kathy, followed Otis from base to base until he was shipped overseas. Following the war they returned to Shelton, where Opal cared for their growing family. Her gardening, canning, and sewing helped to stretch the family income. In 1968 Otis and Opal moved to Tulsa, OK, where they were in business until their retirement. They retired to Sequim, WA, and later moved to the Tacoma area. Opal was a woman of deep faith in God and devoted love for her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved Otis and by granddaughter Andrea. Left to mourn her passing are four children, Kathy (Roy), Patti, Greg (Barbara), and Steve (Ann), nine grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren, with number twelve due on Opal's birthday in April. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 2 p.m. in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be directed to the Tacoma Lutheran Foundation, 1301 N. Highlands Parkway, Tacoma, WA 98406.
