Ruth Turner's Obituary
As one of God's Angels, Ruth Turner who was 100 years old was called home on February 28, 2014.
Ruth Turner was born on December 23,1913, to James & Minnie Linley of Wolf City, Texas now deceased. She was preceded in death by many of her family members to include: her sisters - Naomi Linley, Odessa Johnson, Tennie (Tina) Brigham, Delores Rogers, Martha Linley, her brothers - Henry Ford Linley & James Pierson Linley, and her only son - Robert Clark.
Her surviving family members include her sister, Mary Helen Linley, her brothers - Alexander Linleyand J.R. Linely all of Texas. She has many other wonderful relatives who still live in Texas. Mrs. Turner has a niece, Daveen Rogers and a nephew, Gerald Rogers of Washington State and a nephew, Kenny Rogers of Georgia. She has two goddaughters, Darlene Phyliss Conyers (who Sister Ruth named) of Pinewood, South Carolina, Jackie Loper of Zion Illinois, & one godson, Tony Lauderdale of Tacoma, Washington.
Ruth never liked attending school but she never loved hanging out with little children. She purchased her first house on "I" Street in Tacoma where she opened a home daycare. After closing the daycare, she moved to a house on Ainsworth Street where she then decided to go to school to earn her teaching credentials. Ruth became an elementary school teacher and was naturally one of the best in the school system. She loved teaching the younger children and they loved her. She retired from the Tacoma School District in 1984.
Mrs. Ruth Turner was Christian woman with a beautiful smile. She was active in the church where she sang in the choir. She was the leader of the Willing Workers Circle of Bthlehem Baptist Church. She was the treasurer of the Tacoma Widows Association. She taught the beginners class for church school, attended Adult Sunday School Class and had been a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church for more than 60 years.
Sister Ruth was a grandmother and a great grandmother. She has an endless list of friends in Tacoma. While herself busy, she met her now deceased friend, Mr. Johnson. They traveled back and forth to California, attended birthday parties, church functions, dined out, went to dances and most of all enjoyed each other. Ruth Turner's pride and joy was playing the piano.
We celebrated Sister Ruth Turner's 100th Birthday on December 23, 2013. She was recognized by the Building Fund Committee for being the oldest member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
