Ruth M. PearsonRuth M. Pearson, a long time resident of Lakewood, passed away on March 18, 2004. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1927 where she spent her childhood and adolescent years. She followed her fatherÂ's footsteps and entered Purdue University, where she graduated with a teaching degree in speech therapy. While at Purdue University she met and married Hal Pearson of Seattle. HalÂ's career took them to Newark, Ohio, New Orleans, LA, Tacoma, WA, Ghana, West Africa, and Oakland, CA. They retired in Lakewood, WA in May 1982. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Mildred Grigsby of Cleveland, Ohio and Nokomis, FL, and a brother Richard Grigsby of Cleveland. She is survived by her sister Shirley Schmid of Nokomis, FL, husband of 53 years Hal, sons; Don (Nancy) of Sulphur, LA, Bob (Brenda) of Jonesville, NC, and Dave (Laurie) of Richland, WA. Her treasured grandchildren are Julie and Jim of Jonesville, NC, and Alaina and Mike of Richland, WA. A caring person, Ruth spent her time primarily as a homemaker. She had a passion for reading and while in Ghana managed a company library for employees for three years. Knitting and cross stitching where also her passion and she loved to make special things for others to express her love and affection. Bird watching was another favorite pastime and she enjoyed trips that were centered on the birds. She was very good to the backyard birds at her home.A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 22, 2004 at 2:00 PM in the Mt. View Garden Chapel. The family would like to thank the staff at Franciscan Care Center and Hospice for their excellent care. Memorials can be made to the Franciscan Hospice of Tacoma.
