Russell R. Bucklew's Obituary
Russell Randolph Bucklew Obituary
Russell Randolph Bucklew passed away on 1/6/25, of natural causes, at home in the arms of his loving wife. He was 96. He left this world “generally well lived with few regrets”
He is survived by his wife Angie Bucklew, 6 children, 6 stepchildren, 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren
He was born in Glendale, Ohio. As a child he grew up during the depression era, the family moved frequently throughout the Akron Ohio area seeking work. During WWll his father found steady work in a munitions factory and was able to buy a home in Lakemore Ohio. Childhood days were spent reading, helping his father, a carpenter. Saturday evenings were special, sitting around the radio with his father listening to the “Grand Ol Oprey” which instilled in him a love for gospel, country, and bluegrass music.
Upon graduating from high school he joined the Air Force where he was a participant and instructor in the ROTC program. He served in 3 wars, was stationed in Hawaii, Pittsburg Pa, Bordeaux France, Great Falls and Bozeman Montana, Klamath Falls Ore. He was awarded “Airman Of The Year” in the early 60’s. During his ROTC career he was able to attend college classes and received from Montana State University a Bachelors Degree in Chinese History, and a Masters Degree in Philosophy, all the while raising 6 children. He was a devoted husband and family man. After a 20 year career with the Air Force he began a career with Weyerhaeuser moving to Lakewood where he would live for the next 57 years. At Weyerhaeuser he held numerous positions becoming the container board marketing manager for North, Central and South America, travelling frequently to service his clients. After retiring from Weyerhaeuser he started his own consulting firm that he continued well into his late 80’s.
He enjoyed a good ski run, fishing, travel especially if it involved sun and warmth, cribbage or a good book by the pool. He had a passion for the Mariners. He lived for many years on Steilacoom Lake and enjoyed boating, taking a spin around the lake. He loved a nice tailored suit and he had a penchant for men’s fashion, “ a sharp dressed man”. He was very active in the (that which shall remain anonymous) community and held many positions of service, helping hundreds of individuals turn their lives around, also serving as area archivist for many years.
Thank you Lucy, Jan, Linda, Lisa, Raymond, Joe, Bryan, Pattii, and all the many friends, family and associates that held him in such high regard and provided love and care in his final days.
Memorial will be held January 26, 2025 1-4pm at Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd, SW, Lakewood, WA 98499, Celebration of Life Center
