Roscoe Boozer's Obituary
Long time Tacoma resident was called home on Friday February 18th, 2005 at the age of 74. A resourceful, bright, cheerful, and compassionate gentleman was born on July 12th, 1930 to Agnes and James Boozer of Marianna, Arkansas. He later was adopted by the late Ola Thomas of Chicago, Illinois.He graduated from Dunbar Technical High School in 1948 and joined the United States Air Force in 1951. He met his wife of 49 years, Florence Wilhelmenia Butler of Greenville, South Carolina when stationed at Donaldson AFB (Greenville), they were wed in 1955. They later moved to Tacoma, Washington (Mc Chord AFB) in 1965 as a result of a military assignment. Roscoe retired in 1974 as a Tech Sergeant after 23years of dedicated service. He served with the 7th Air Transportation Squadron as an Aircraft Loadmaster and traveled extensively throughout the world. Following his retirement he was employed by Huntleigh Services of Seattle, Washington. He was a dedicated member of the following organizations: Life member Â- VFW Post 969 (Tacoma, WA), Professional Loadmaster Association, American Legion, Eagles (Tacoma, WA), and the Progressive Investment Club (Tacoma, WA), Master Mason of the Egyptian Lodge #44 (Tacoma, WA). He was awarded the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award as a member of the 32nd Air Division (Combat Cargo), and received the Million Miler Certificate of Achievement and status of Â"Airman of the World.Â" This position comes only to those who have constantly displayed the initiative to progress in their chosen profession of aviation. Roscoe was a devoted husband and loving father. He is survived by his wife Florence Wilhelmenia Â"BillieÂ" Boozer of Tacoma, Washington; his son Marc Boozer of San Francisco, California; and was preceded by his son Milton Boozer, Tacoma, Washington, who passed in 1997. A sister Jane Mitchell of Burnham, Illinois; a step sister Birdie Darnell of Chicago, Illinois; special in-laws Jennelle Travis of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Leontine Ivery of Greenville, S.C.; Ernest Butler of Greenville, S.C.; and a host of loving relatives and friends. All donations are requested to be made to the Tacoma Food Bank. Donations will provide assistance to families in need.Memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, February 28, 2005 in the Mountain View Celebration of Life Center. A celebration and remembrance reception will be held following the memorial service from 2:30-5:00 PM at Amvets, 5717 South Tyler, Tacoma, Washington.
