Rosalind Kenney's Obituary
Rosalind Hilda Kenney Born at the start of the Second World War and raised by her war widow mother in post-war England, Rosalind Hilda Kenney (nee Reeve) finally succumbed to the cancer she battled for 10 years. She is survived by her husband of more than 51 years, Robert (Bob), daughter Tracey and son Sean, and four grandchildren. Those who worked with her, many of whom became her friends, would tell you of her professionalism and hard work. Those with whom she volunteered would tell you of her dedication to, and extensive knowledge of, Washington and the Pacific Northwest. Those who knew her best would be sure to tell you how quick she was to smile and how infectious was her laugh. Rosalind was smart beyond the limits of her formal education, loved the theatre, was an avid reader, and possessed a keen wit. As evidenced by the note pads in her kitchen, she also was a prodigious doodler. Polite, almost to a fault, her only intolerance was for intolerance and meanness. It was when she encountered these that her wit could be its keenest and most biting. Rosalind was proud but never boastful, except perhaps about her hometown of Lowestoft, England, where her elder brother Richard and younger sister Tina still live. She hardly could mention Lowestoft without reminding the listener that it is the most easterly point of Britain and that the rays of the rising sun first touch the empire there. Though she clearly loved many things British, she was quick to say of her adopted country that she much preferred being a citizen to being a subject. Rosalind's passing leaves a hole in her family and in her community. From the Red Hat Diva Darlings to the Fit Happens exercise group at the Lakewood Community Center to the Tacoma and Pierce County Visitor and Convention Bureau and her beloved Lakewold Gardens. The grief her family shares is tempered only by the wit, laughter, and love she has left with us and which we will remember always. Her family wishes to extend its sincerest thanks to the caring and dedicated staff at Madigan Army Medical Center, University Place Care Center, and Franciscan Hospice House for helping Rosalind and her family through this difficult time. Throughout the last several months of her illness, Rosalind received a steady stream of visitors. This is a testament to the loyalty she engendered in a wide array of friends. Her family extends heartfelt thanks to those who visited or otherwise kept Rosalind and her family in their thoughts and prayers. Rosalind's family will hold a private service. If you wish, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society , Franciscan Hospice House, or Lakewold Gardens.
