Ronnie Babe Huber Bell's Obituary
Ronnie Babe Huber Bell
January 5, 1935 – July 13, 2018
Ronnie Bell, 83, passed away at her home in Gig Harbor, Washington in the late hours of July 13, 2018 with her daughters Lynn and Sara by her side.
Ronnie was born January 5, 1935 in Spring Branch, TX to Baby and Chris Huber. Her loving sister Connie predeceased her last year. In 1955, Ronnie married the love of her life – George Ebon Bell – after meeting on the steps at the University of Houston. George carried in his wallet throughout his life the piece of paper upon which Ronnie had written her name and phone number the day they met.
Ronnie's life took a turn in 1986 when George suddenly passed away. She had been a Red Cross volunteer teaching swimming to hundreds of kids at the Cottonwood pool in Richardson, TX for years as well as working the voting booths and being a Camp Fire Girl Leader and Choir chaperone and Soccer and Track fan. She'd also worked at Shoe Finds with Ron, and The Plum Tree with Tony and Joanne. She next started working part-time with Eurway and that turned into a full-time career being a top seller of furniture for years. She transferred to Eurway’s new Houston store in 1999 and continued making new friends, especially Marge and Don whom she adored and visited in Nova Scotia.
Ronnie had many travel adventures to Europe from 1989 to 1994 visiting her grandkids Azure, Amber and Michael as well as trips to beloved Breckenridge, CO from 1997 to 2004 where she walked Main Street each year. Her favorites were the Rock shop and the Soap shop! Later trips with youngest daughter Sara and family included Sedona, AZ.
She moved from Houston to Dallas in 2004 to be near her family again after surviving heart surgery. She once again started working in retail – at The Room Store, Kohl's and Ross for the next few years. A life-changing car crash forced her retirement; her oldest daughter Lynn became her caregiver and was with her until her death.
A new adventure was the 2015 move with Sara and her family, joined by Lynn and her daughter Amanda, across the country to the beautiful Pacific Northwest village of Gig Harbor. She again enjoyed her visits to shops in town. The Spice Shop was a favorite.
Ronnie is survived by her beloved cat, George, aka Brat Cat, daughters Lynn, grandkids Travis and Amanda; Joni (husband Greg), grandkids Azure, Amber and Michael; Dabby (husband Rick) grandkids Kylie and Jake; and Sara (husband Kelly – also her Godson) grandkids Garrett and Brandon. In February, she got to meet her great grandson Leif! Her younger brother Chris called and was able to talk with her recently. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews, especially her beloved nieces, Eve and Robin, and nephews David and Pete.
Ronnie would ask her friends and family, in lieu of flowers, to do something kind in her name. Ronnie was always first in line to help someone in need. Her wheelchair will be donated to the Gig Harbor Fire Department’s Loan Program. Per her wishes, her ashes will be interred with the love of her life George in Dallas.
