Ronald George Weber's Obituary
Ronald George Weber
November 20, 1937 – June 4, 2016
On June 4th, 2016, our Dad Ron passed peacefully at his residence. Dad was born in Tacoma, Washington to Margaret and George Weber. He is preceeded in death by his mother, Margaret, father, George, sister Gerry Weber Hayes, and step father Robert Sutherland. He is survived by his five children: Ron Weber Jr., Cathy Huyser (Rob), Rob Weber, Angie Morris (Jeff), Tim Weber, his 10 grandchildren: Chelsea Huyser, Allie Weber, Gabe Weber, Jessica Huyser, Michael Chambers, Daniel Morris, Damario Nazarino-Celis, Sarah Morris, Serena Weber, Maggie Morris, and his two great grandchildren: Cienna Huyser, Hadley Anderson-Huyser, his siblings Judy Olson, Patti Horton, Billy Sutherland, Bobbie Copeland (Harvey), and Sandi Sutherland, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dad attended Central School, Salishan School, Gault Jr. High and Lincoln High School from which he graduated in 1956. He played and received a letter in baseball and basketball at Lincoln. He joined the Navy in 1957 and served two years active duty and 4 years reserve duty. In 1960, he married Mary C. Bostwick with whom he had his five children. They were married for 33 years.
Dad was involved with many organizations. He was a long time member of the Puyallup Eagles and VFW in which he played baseball for both organizations. He worked as a pipefitter for Tacoma Boat Building Company for over 25 years and was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 82. Dad was also a member of The Bellarmine Booster Club for several years.
Dad had many passions in his life. He loved camping and did so several times a year with his family. Dad loved learning about the history of Tacoma, and also started tracing his family tree. Dad adored his grandchildren and even spent much of his time babysitting them, especially Gabe and Allie Weber. Dad grew up in Salishan in East Tacoma and was proud of it. He had many lifelong friends from the ‘east side’ and he had strong connections with his childhood friends right up until his death.
Dad’s greatest passion was sports-every type of sports, but it was baseball that captured most of his attention. He was a Seattle Seahawks season ticket holder in the early years. He took us kids to many Mariner and Seahawk games in the Kingdome, and even more baseball games at Cheney Stadium. Dad would talk baseball and football to anyone who would listen. His knowledge of sports was immense and at times unmatched. He could recite random stats from the NFL or MLB on cue. His favorite teams, much to the dismay of many, were the L.A. Lakers, New York Yankees and San Francisco 49ers.
Dad was amazingly present at all of his kids sporting events. All five of us kids were involved in numerous sports, and Dad was at every baseball, basketball and football game, at every tennis and wrestling match, at every volleyball game and track meet, at water polo matches and soccer games. He found a way to connect with each of us kids and grandkids through our sporting events, and it made him proud to see them all play the various sports they loved. He also traveled to several tournaments out of town for kids and grandkids.
Dad had a big heart and was a good friend to many. Many of our friends growing up loved to chat with Dad, and he always took the time to talk to us kids and our friends and catch up on what was going on. Dad was quick to say kind things about many people and usually kept anything negative to himself, a great lesson for us.
Dad loved to joke with his family and enjoyed family get togethers. He was at his best when he was with his family and friends. He was a jokester and could be very funny. He gave those of us who were lucky enough to be his kids and grandkids something so valuable, a priceless gift - his time, attention, and love. You are so missed Dad-we love you.
Our family would like to thank the many many people-family and friends alike, who have reached out to us during this difficult time. We really feel the love and support, and appreciate so much hearing from you all. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 2p in The Mountain View Celebration of Life Aspen Chapel. If you would like to be contacted personally by email, text or phone call regarding the memorial, please send contact information to Angie Morris at [email protected] or 253-592-5201.
Thank you all so very much,
Ron, Cathy, Rob, Angie and Tim
