Ronald Munce's Obituary
Ronald Clifford Munce was born in Tacoma, WA on July 23, 1928. He passed away November 13, 2011 in Puyallup, WA. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie and Alex Munce; wife, Thelma Connell Munce; half brother, Henry Munce and half sisters, Esther, Margaret, Beatrice and Leona. Ron attended Tacoma schools. He served in the Army in Japan and Korea with the 223rd Regimental Combat, 40th Division, and received the Bronze Star and CIB.
Ronald was a member of the Puyallup Eagles, Daffodil Roamers RV Club, Lakewood Elks, Moose and lifetime VFW. He attended Christ Lutheran Church in Lakewood.
Ron was a Teamster for 45 years. He worked construction and spent the last fifteen years as a Teamster official. He started out as a Trustee in 1960; advancing to Business Agent, President and then on to Secretary-Treasurer, as the CEO of Local 313. He was responsible for the purchase of the Harstine Island Teamsters Recreational and RV Park. He was very proud to have all 3 sons in the Teamsters. He retired in 1991.
In 1946, Ron became interested in Midget car racing. He did some refereeing and was happy to have 2 sons racing Midgets when they became of age. His son Mike was a 2 year champion. Ron married Thelma Connell in 1955 and they were married for 36 years.
Ron is survived by his companion of 15 years, Anne Johnson; sons Michael, Marty (JoAnn), Steve (Tony), and Doug Johnson; daughters Diane Steeves (Scott) and Kristi Roy (Robert); brothers Clarence and Alex (Bonnie); 15 grandchildren; his special pet, Princess; and many friends and relatives.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 18, 2011 from 1pm to 9pm and again Saturday from 8am to 10am at Mountain View Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Mountain View Funeral Home followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1pm at Christ Lutheran Church, 8211 112th street SW, Lakewood, WA. Memorial contributions can be sent to the Franciscan Hospice, 2901 Bridgeport Way West, University Place, WA 98466.
