Ronald G. Merry's Obituary
On 11/6/2022 at 8:00 PM, I lost my lost my soul mate and the love of my life. The lord decided to call Ron home. He went peacefully as I held him in my arms. Ron was born in Pender, Nebraska and later his family moved to Vermillion, South Dakota. He graduated from Vermillion High School in 1966 and not long after was drafted to the Army. He proudly served from 1967 to 1970 and flew medevac in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. After returning to the states he was stationed at Fort Lewis. We met with only 6 months left to serve and married a year later. We were together almost 53 years. I am not sure how to live without him.
He was a 5 year cancer survivor. In January 2021 he tragically suffered a Subdural Hematoma from a fall while walking one of our 5 dogs. He loved his dogs and enjoyed their daily walks together.
Ron was such a wonderful caring man to so many people. Whenever someone needed help he would be the first one there reaching out with a helping hand to whomever needed it.
Ron loved life and all it held. We were fortunate enough to be able to take many family trips to wonderful places over the years. I will forever hold those memories in my heart. His greatest joy in life was our daughter Hayley. She definitely kept him young. They were so adventurous together. Zip lining, parasailing, swimming with dolphins, you name it he would try it. He loved it all and was game for anything with her.
Ron was a HUGE Nascar fan as anyone who knew him would tell you. That was his greatest past time. He spent several years on a Northwest tour pit crew and loved every minute of it. I am so happy he was able to spend so many years doing what he loved.
Ron was proceeded in death by his mother and father George & Augusta Merry, brother Gordon, and Sister Beverly Jacobson & (Husband Bob). He is survived by his wife Jackie and daughter Hayley. Sister Carla (Mike) Feller, Nebraska, sister Delores (Doug) Hruby, South Dakota. Sister-in-law Betty Cannon (Kenny), Brother-in-laws Virgil Weber and Trever Moslander and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service at Tahoma National Cemetery With Military Honors on 11/28/2022 at 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM., 18600 Southeast 240th Street Kent, WA 98042
