Ronald Leon Henning's Obituary
Ronald Leon Henning was born in Wichita, Kansas, November 6, 1934 and passed away June 19, 2016 in Puyallup, Washington at the age of 81.
Ron lived in the Northwest until he was a teenager, when he returned to Kansas to Graduate from Bentley High School in 1954.
Ron returned to the Northwest and went to work for Boeing for three years and enlisted in the Naval Reserves. He received the call to complete his 8 years, but instead he had a long and honorable career in the Navy, enlisting when he was 23 in 1957 and retiring in 1982, as a Chief Petty Officer and earning many commendations over his years of service.
He was stationed in Japan, Guam, San Diego, California, Adak Alaska and Washington State. He did tours on the U.S.S. Mars and the U.S.S. Epping Forest.
He met the love of his life, Yukie Ishisone, in Japan and they married in 1959, celebrating 57 years of togetherness in September 2015.
After retiring from the Navy he worked for Honeywell for 15 years. Retiring a second time in 1997, he began to pursue his passions.
Ron was an avid outdoorsman, fishing, hunting, and camping, with either a buddy or Yukie by his side. He and Yukie spent many summers as Volunteer Hosts at Horseshoe Lake on Mt. Adams.
Ron enjoyed his ship reunions and tried never to miss one. He volunteered as the treasurer, encouraging his shipmates to attend so they could catch-up and reminisce. He never forgot his shipmates.
Ron never knew a stranger. His passion was meeting and making friends from all over the world, no matter what he was doing or where he was traveling. He believed firmly in the principles of his Lord and Master, Jesus Christ, and lived it by extending kindness to all. He believed that Social Media was created for him. He loved how the computer put him in touch with everyone.
He was preceded in death by his younger sister, Delores and his mother, Vivian L. Preszler.
He is survived by his loving wife, Yukie, and 6 siblings: Deanna (Denis) Timmerman, Margie (Gig) Serikawa, Steve (Lori) Surridge, Cindy (Mike) Mansanarez, Vickie (Phillip) Orlando, and Karen (Rick) Garcia, and many, many nieces and nephews.
Ronald’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at 2 pm at Mountain View Funeral Home in the Oak Room.
He will be laid to rest at Tahoma National Cemetery with Military Honors.
