Rolland Woodman's Obituary
FIRST SERGEANT, USAF (RET), ROLLAND “WOODY” WOODMAN
First Sergeant Woodman passed away peacefully at his home at Patriots Landing in DuPont, Washington on May 28, 2013, at the age of 80.
“Woody” was born March 26, 1933 in Wiley, Colorado. He moved to Eureka, California in 1938 where he attended school. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1950. In 1951, he was assigned to the 98th Bomb Wing, flying on B-29’s out of Yokota, Japan. From there he flew several bombing missions over North Korea and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars. His overseas service included being stationed in Japan, Okinawa, The Philippines and Germany. “Woody’s” awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Army of Occupation Medal Japan 1951, United Nations Service Medal, Korean War Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
“Woody” retired obtaining the rank of Senior Master Sergeant in 1975, as a First Sergeant with the 62nd Airlift Wing at McChord Air Force Base, Washington.
“Woody” is survived by his mother Dorothy Hewitt (103) of Benton, LA, his brother Russell Woodman (83), also of Benton, LA, his daughter Tracie Stubblefield (56) and son-in-law Jerry Stubblefield of Lake Oswego, OR, son Keith Woodman (54) of Lakewood, WA, and granddaughter Ashley Woodman (18), of Baker City, OR.
“Woody” will be reunited with his wife of 50 years, Betty Woodman, at Tahoma National Cemetery.
A Remembrance of Life service with Military Honors provided by the United States Air Force will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday June 13, 2013 at Patriot’s Landing in DuPont, WA.
