Roger James Miener's Obituary
Roger James Miener, 76, of Tacoma, Washington passed away peacefully January 8, 2019. Roger was born December 25, 1942 at Ft. Lewis, Washington to Jessie Lois (Heaton) and Harold Glenn Miener. He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Barbara Wolfe Miener. Roger attended Wheaton High School in Wheaton, Illinois, and University of Illinois. He served as a U. S. Air Force officer for three years during the Vietnam War and was stationed at Hill Air Force Base north of Salt Lake City, Utah where he met and married Barbara. Roger and Barbara then moved to Seattle, Washington where Roger attended law school at the University of Washington. After graduation, Roger went to work at the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C. practicing oil antitrust law. Roger had a lifelong hobby of model railroading. He liked to build things and built seating around the deck of their home as well as an arbor. He liked history in general as well as railroad history. Naturally, he visited AMTRAK headquarters in Washington, D.C., and was given a tour by the CEO who then offered him a job. After talking it over with Barbara, he took the job. Later, in 1973, a friend who had become the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney, called Roger to offer him a job in the Prosecutor’s Office. Roger and Barbara knew that they eventually wanted to return to the Pacific Northwest, so Roger accepted the job offer and worked in the civil division, retiring in 2003.
