Roger Joy Stewart's Obituary
Roger J. Stewart was born in 1924 in Tacoma, Washington to Roger and Pearl Stewart and passed away on May 15, 2010 in Tacoma. Roger graduated from Stadium High School in 1941. After graduation he began his studies in architectural engineering at Washington State College, where he joined Theta Chi fraternity. During WWII he enlisted in the Army Air Force. He studied meteorology at the University of Chicago and then served with the Army Air Force in the Pacific. Returning to WSC in 1946, he met Betty Jean Brundage and they were married in Pullman in 1947. After completing his degree in architectural engineering, Roger and his family moved to Tacoma. There he worked for the Early Company and later formed Jensen and Stewart Architects. After a long and successful private practice he was employed by the state of Washington and joined the Port of Tacoma as project engineer. He served on the Fircrest Town Council and was an active member of the Fircrest United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by Betty, his wife of 55 years, and Kathryn White, his wife of 4 years.
He is survived by his children Sharon Armstrong, Beckie Stewart, Tom Stewart, and Rodney Stewart, grandchildren Jeffrey Stewart, Brian Stewart, Kathleen Horrigan, Sarah Armstrong, Holly Stewart, Hilary Armstrong and Laura Horrigan, brother David Stewart, and many wonderful cousins and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Fircrest United Methodist Church at 1018 Columbia Avenue, Fircrest, on May 27th, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Remembrances may be made to Fircrest United Methodist Church or the Tacoma Lutheran Home.
