Roby A Dodd's Obituary
CMSGT Roby A. Dodd passed away on June 21, 2018. Roby was born in Coal City, West Virginia on July 18, 1934 to Alva W. and Beatrice G. Dodd. The son of a Farmer and Coal Miner, Roby entered the Air Force immediately after graduating from high school.
Roby is survived by his four children, Terri Williams (Husband – Sant) of Spokane, WA, Patrick (Wife – June) of Lakewood, WA, Randy of Spokane, WA, and Roby E. (Wife – Maria) of Spanaway, WA. He is also survived by 7 Grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren. Roby is also survived by a sister – Lola, of North Carolina and a brother – Olen (Wife - Judy) of West Virginia. Roby was preceded in death by his wife - Priscilla, their daughter - Mary Ann, who was born and died in West Virginia in 1957, a brother – Robert Sexton of Texas, and a sister - Edna, of Delaware.
Roby met his darling wife, Priscilla in 1955 in Spokane, WA while stationed at Fairchild AFB. They were married on October 6, 1956. Roby spent 30 years in the Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller. He retired in 1981, having been the Air Traffic Control Superintendent at McChord AFB for the past 10 years. He served overseas in England, Korea, Vietnam, and Taiwan. Stateside he was stationed in Texas, Mississippi, Arizona, New Mexico, Montana, Alabama, California, and three bases in Washington State: Fairchild AFB, Paine Field, and McChord AFB. After retirement from the Air Force, Roby co-owned and operated a Real Estate company in Lakewood for 10 years and two Restaurant and Lounges for 4 years. He enjoyed flying and was a Multi-Engine, Commercial, Instrument Rated and Pilot that flew for a period in the 70’s and 80’s with Gross Aviation – a Commuter & Charter Airline flying out of SeaTac, South Tacoma, and Tacoma Narrows Airports.
Roby was an avid golfer who loved golfing in Washington and Arizona. Roby and Priscilla spent their winters in Arizona for 19 years before she passed away. Roby continued his winters there until Spring of 2017. Roby was a lifetime Member of many Fraternities and Organizations; including the Air Force Association, Disabled American Veterans Association, NCO Association, and Tacoma Elks Lodge #174.
Visitation for Roby will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018 from 2-8pm at Mountain View Funeral Home. Services will also be held at Mountain View Funeral Home in the Aspen Chapel, with a Reception to follow on July 1, 2018 at 1:30pm. Interment will take place at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA.
