Robin L. Gunderson
Robin Lance Gunderson age 71, a longtime Lakebay resident passed away Thursday February 14, 2019 at St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor. He was born in Tacoma on March 8, 1947 to Ole Thor Gunderson Sr. and Barbara Patricia (Mason) Gunderson.
After graduating from Franklin Pierce High School in 1965, he took a job with Boeing as a riveter. He attended Bates Technical College and after certification, he became employed by Walker Chevrolet as a journeyman mechanic. Robin lived 18 years in Texas while working with a team of missionaries. Upon returning to Washington State, he accepted a job with Boeing until his retirement. He loved going to the ocean, digging clams, and flying stunt kites with his family. He also liked watching Nascar and going to hot rod shows.
Robin was married for 30 years to Karla Leggitt (Chance). He is survived by their daughters and a son. Katrina Calis and husband John of Farmington, MN; Rachel Jellum and husband Brian of Home, WA; Priscilla Crabtree and husband Mark of Tacoma, WA; and a son, Benjamin Gunderson of Key Center, WA. He has six grandchildren Patrick, Samantha, Andrew, Nicolette, Jessica and Fiona. Survived by siblings Ole Jr. Gunderson of Heber City, UT; Norman Gunderson of Seattle, WA; and Wendy Zook of Seattle, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents Ole Sr. and Barbara Gunderson and sister Jeanie Mines.
Robin was a member of the Boeing Pottery Club and won several awards on his pottery at the Puyallup Fair. He enjoyed volunteering at Evergreen Elementary School showing students pottery techniques. He also enjoyed his time volunteering for Special Olympics. He loved making his famous fudge and sharing it with those he met.
Think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched…for nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much.
