Roberta Halloway Chaney's Obituary
Mrs. Roberta Holloway Chaney was born on the 19th of March in 1937, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Roberta's father was Mr. Morton L. Holloway and her mother, Mrs. Jessie Swain Holloway. She was one of nine children, loved by her eight siblings, including her late older sister, Helena Holloway Brown, her five late brothers, John E. Holloway, James C. Holloway, Robert F. Holloway, Vernon Holloway & Ernest B. Holloway, and is survived by her brothers Morton Holloway Jr. and Lafayette Holloway.
Mrs. Roberta and her Holloway family moved to California in 1943 when she was five years old. Mrs. Roberta lived in Richmond, California until she was twenty-one years old and then moved to Oakland, California to begin her adult life. Mrs. Roberta came to be a waitress and hostess for a black owned cafe' and movie theater on seventh street in West Oakland. Mrs. Roberta extended her work ethics into the career of housekeeping for over thirty years at St. Rose Hospital in Hayward, California, Alameda Naval Hospital, in Almeda California, Booth Memorial Home for Unwed Mothers and Matilda Brown Senior Assisted Living.
Mrs. Roberta worked diligently to provided for her four children, son, Emmit (Ricky) McRae and Daughters, Rita J. Roberts, Robbie D. Cooks, and Jessica R. Martin. Mrs. Roberta has 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, ande 1 great great great granddaughter.
Mrs. Roberta's woman of God calling started at the age of 11 years old. Throughout her life she stayed the course and kept her faith strong. She brought her entire family to the House of God (Call Church). Mrs. Roberta's faith called for her to be a Fellowship Member at The New Light Baptist Church, in Oakland, California. Forty years of her stewardship was as an Intercessory Prayer Warrior. She also served on the Repast and Ushers Ministry. Mrs. Roberta was a Community Activist in her own neighborhood, helping control the drug activity, so as to protect the youth and elderly of the 1980's. Upon moving to Washington State Mrs. Roberta started attending her second church home in 1998 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, in Tacoma, Washington, where she continued her stewardship as an Intercessory Prayer Warrior and services in the Repast Ministry for 25 more years. Mrs. Roberta's Stewardship of 65 years is something to be respected.
Mrs. Roberta leaves cherished, lasting, memories to a host of nieces, nephews, their children, their children's children, and countless extended family and friends.
