Robert Vernon Reynolds' Obituary
ROBERT VERNON REYNOLDS May 20, 1939 ,- April 14, 2007 At Peace above the Mountains and PrairiesBob peacefully passed away due to natural causes at the age of 67. He was born on May 20, 1939 in Flasher North Dakota to Leonard and Olga Reynolds. ,"Bob," graduated from Flasher High School where he played football for the ,"Flasher Bulldogs.," Bob enjoyed working on his cousins and friends ranches. He attended Valley City State Teachers College in North Dakota where he continued playing football and graduated with a bachelor degree in education. Bob was named the all time leading quarterback for small colleges and was scouted by head coach George Halas to try out for the Chicago Bears football team. Bob and his family moved to Tacoma in 1961 where he continued his education and began his teaching career for Tacoma Public Schools. Bob taught at Park Avenue, Cascadia Diagnostic Center, and Stanley Elementary. He worked in administration and was Coordinator for Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) for Early Childhood Education and Title-1. From 1982-1989 he was also the Director of Grants Management for the district. Bob took a leave of absence from the district in 1989 and worked as the Director of Title-1, monitoring state and federal programs for the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) in Olympia. Bob embraced life to the fullest touching so many people along the way. His charismatic personality, warm heart, and generosity were felt by all. He loved fishing, hunting, scuba diving, mountain climbing, and camping. After his retirement, he and Patty along with many family members would vacation to North Dakota for cattle drives, tractor time, and family ties. In Tacoma, he enjoyed relaxing at the lake cabin, putzing around in his garage, and being a dedicated ,"gramps.," Bob was preceded in death by his father Leonard. He is survived by his wife Patty, mother Olga Reynolds of Bismarck ND, daughter Debbie (Bruce) Banfield, son Marty Reynolds, step-sons Chris (Laurie) Plumb, Curtis (Danielle) Plumb, sisters Gayle (Stan) Gibbons all of the Tacoma area, Mary (Ed) Ternes of Helena MT, brothers Lloyd (Joanne) Reynolds of Bozeman MT, Lee (Rita) Reynolds of Choteau MT, Grandchildren Blake and Bryce Banfield, Nicole Hunter, Bailey and Wyatt Plumb, many wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews and a universe of friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Tacoma General Hospital for all their warm and comforting thoughts and prayers during Bobs short stay.Memorial services will be Saturday April 21, 2007 3:00pm at Mountain View Funeral Home Valley Chapel.
