CSM Robert C. Slattery's Obituary
Jesus *said . . . , “Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” – John 11:40
Command Sergeant Major Robert C. Slattery, a man of faith in Jesus Christ, was ushered into the presence of God on March 20, 2014.
He was born to Claude Milo Slattery and Evelyn Bess Thompson Slattery on May 23, 1932 in Boise Idaho. His youth was lived in Pocatello Idaho where he attended Whittier Elementary, Franklin Junior High and Pocatello High Schools.
On August 12, 1952, he married the love of his life, Rosella M. Dickson Slattery (Marie), who he loved and cherished for 61 years.
Bob traveled all over the world with Marie by his side as he served his country in the United States Army. The military was his passion and he lived patriotism, honor and love for his country. He served for 27½ years in the Army, favorite being in the Cavalry, and 3 years in the National Guard. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars and received many honors.
When he retired in 1979, he continued to serve the Army at the Army Administrative Typing School until the school closed. With time on his hands and his new found faith in Jesus Christ, he began to serve at the First Baptist Church of Lakewood. He served as an administrator in the office for many years. In continued service he was a deacon and then served the many seniors at the church as their Pastor. That was his joy until death, nurturing the faith of seniors and being there for them in all of life’s challenges. They returned the favor as they ministered to Bob many times also.
Bob touched many lives over his 81 years. To God be the glory through his endeavors. One of his greatest blessings was the legacy he left behind in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be sorely missed until we meet him again in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;
They will not be ashamed
When they speak with their enemies in the gate. – Psalm 127:4-5
