Robert Morrison Chambers' Obituary
Robert Chambers died peacefully on Sunday morning, January 9, 2005 at St. Joseph Hospital surrounded by his family. Robert was born May 20, 1920, the youngest son of Albert and Catherine Morrison in Robinson, North Dakota. At 14 months of age, his mother died of an epidemic infection, and his aunt Elizabeth and uncle James Chambers adopted him bringing him back to their home in Tacoma, Washington. He spent his early years in Tacoma exploring the waterfront, and helping his parents with their restaurant business. He attended Stadium High School and later University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he met his wife of 64 years Edna Mae Parish. Robert served in WWII, received his M.D. degree from Creighton University in 1950 and practiced medicine and neurosurgery for over 45 years. Dedicated to helping others, he skillfully healed countless patients with a caring touch and an uncanny ability for diagnoses. He cared for VIPs, the working man and the homeless with equal diligence. His sense of humor, his upbeat attitude and his compassion for all people truly made him a unique healer. He is loved and admired by many. RobertÂ's patients, family, friends and the world are a better place for having known and enjoyed him. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Edna; his seven sons, James, Lawrence, Michael, Timothy, Stephen, David (George) and William; his three daughters, Mary, Margaret and Patricia; his 29 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews; preceded in death by son Robert, Jr. and daughter Barbara.Viewing will be held from 2:00-6:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 13 at Mt. View Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 7:00 PM in the Garden Chapel. A mass celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 14, 2005 at Visitation Church, 3314 S. 58th St., Tacoma, 98409. Reception following in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice.
