Robert Meers' Obituary
Bob Meers was born on Vashon Island to Edward and Mary Meers and passed away on December 11th following a long battle with congestive heart failure. He was retired from Bates Technical College following a 25 year career as a television broadcast instructor.
Bob grew up in Tacoma and attended Lincoln High School. As a young man he went to sea with the Merchant Marines and traveled the world. He stopped in many ports and had many adventures that made for great memories. He discovered a bond with the sea at that time. He also served in the Army. Following his time in the service Bob went into radio and then television broadcasting. He made his career in television engineering and ended up teaching television at Bates Technical College.
After retiring Bob enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He would often tell stories of time spent with them. These memories always made him smile.
Bob was known for his generous nature. He was ever the knight that rescued both family and friends during snowstorms and other disasters. Taking care of his family was always a priority for him, and he went out of his way to do so.
He enjoyed an active life and loved both snow and water skiing, fishing in area creeks, camping and boating. Bob loved the beautiful northwest area where he was born and lived his entire life. His children have many happy memories of camping at French Creek and taking turns fishing with dad.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Mary Meers . He is survived by his wife Ivene , children Teri (Ron) Wright and Keith (Carol) Meers, step children Tammy (Joel) Balmer and Greg (Tami) Martin, and grandchildren Andrew and Mary Miller, Khrystina Meers, Jayne Wright, Mitchell Balmer, Avery and Carly Martin, as well as a number of cousins.
Bob will be remembered at a memorial service to be held at Mountain View Funeral Home in the Garden Chapel on January 8th at 1pm.
Memorial Donations can be made to the American Heart Association or Multicare Good Samaritan Hospice.
