Robert Long Stein's Obituary
Robert L. Stein
Robert "Buck" Stein was born in Cumberland, Maryland on Jan. 20th, 1922. He was the son of Clarence H. Stein and Agnes Long. Buck graduated from Allegany High School and attended Washington and Lee University. He was a veteran of WWII and served from 1942 - 46. Robert and his wife Connie arrived in Tacoma on Labor Day, 1949. He worked at various jobs until a family friend loaned him the money to purchase his first drive-in, located at 48th and Pacific Avenue. Buck continued to operate the drive-in business for 46 years, and at the height of his operation had 7 Dairy Queens/ Dairy Dell stores. He enjoyed getting up every morning and collecting his boxer dog and visiting each location. Buck was extremely proud of his organization and his excellent personnel who managed and operated the businesses. Buck loved to travel, and, with his wife at his side, journeyed across most of the globe. He never imagined he would have the opportunity to see the actual ruins and visit the sights of the civilizations he read about in his extensive collection of history books. Buck passed from this life on May 31, 2009, peacefully in his sleep, at the Tobey Jones Health Care Center. Robert is survived by his wife Constance Stein, his son Gary and his wife Melody, his daughter Patricia Parsons and her husband Brent Parsons, and their 3 children, Alicia, Matthew and Shelby Parsons. There will be an informal memorial service at 1:30 PM on Sunday, June 7th, 2009. Please contact Pat (Stein) Parsons at 206-919-4202 for additional details.
