Robert M Jackson's Obituary
Robert M. Jackson, a resident of Narrows Glen in Tacoma, WA, passed away peacefully on Oct 22, 2014.
Mr. Jackson was born in Evanston, IL on April 2, 1926. His early childhood was spent in numerous locations as his parents moved throughout the South and Southwest before settling in Fort Worth, TX. After graduation from Northside High School in Fort Worth, he was inducted into the US Army in 1944, serving in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. Upon discharge, he married the former Patricia Snell of Shreveport, LA on December 21st, 1947. Mr. Jackson graduated from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and obtained his Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Texas in Austin.
Mr. Jackson began his career in the private sector, rising to Vice President of Operations for International Utilities in Philadelphia, PA. In 1970, he joined the US Department of Energy in Washington, DC. In 1986, he began his final assignment as the Senior Representative for the Far East at the US Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. Upon retirement in 1989, he and his wife Pattie retired to the Pacific Northwest where they spent the past 25 years.
Mr. Jackson volunteered his time to various organizations including the Mukilteo, WA Police Department and the American Lake VA Hospital, Lakewood, WA.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his son, Gordon Jackson (Cheryl), of Williamsburg, VA, daughter Jeri Cranney (Frank) of North Bend, WA, daughter-in-law Regina, grandchildren Melissa, Steven, Matthew, Christopher and Brian and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Patricia and his son Kenneth Lee.
Funeral services will be held graveside at 11:00 am Tuesday Oct 28, 2014 at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Fisher House at the Seattle VA Hospital.
