Robert Duane Heffernan's Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Duane Heffernan, who left us on Tuesday, March 11th at the age of 84. Born in Franklin, Pennsylvania, Robert was the beloved son of the late Vearle Chester Heffernan and Pauline Elizabeth Singleton, who preceded him in death. He was also influenced by his stepfather, Earl Baughman, whose guidance and support played a significant role in his upbringing. Robert’s decision to join the military was a proud moment for Earl, a World War II veteran. Earl was immensely proud of Robert's military achievements and consistently supported him throughout his career.
From a young age, Robert was known for his strong work ethic and resourcefulness. At just 12 years old, he began setting pins at a local bowling alley. By age 15, he was washing trucks for a bread delivery company. At 16, he pumped gas and changed oil at a local gas station. At 18, he served hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries, and milkshakes at his Mother's Drive-In.
At 19, Robert proudly joined the U.S. Army in April 1959, where his military service took him to Okinawa, Japan. It was there that he met the love of his life, Yoko and together they built a beautiful family and life.
Robert is lovingly remembered by his wife, Yoko, and his cherished children. His daughter, Brenda Atkinson, along with her husband Michael and their children Azia and Shane, who currently reside in Washington State. His son, Curtis Heffernan, his wife Linda, and their children Minami and Akihiro, live in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
Robert is also survived by his brother, Donald Heffernan, and brothers Larry Joe Baughman and Mark Baughman along with his sister Louise Lucas. He is preceded in death by his brother Jerry Baughman.
Robert's values of integrity and dedication touched the lives of everyone around him. He enjoyed sharing stories of his life experiences and cherished the time spent with family and friends. His legacy of kindness and love will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
He will be laid to rest at Tahoma National Cemetery, a resting place befitting his dedication and service to his country. In his memory, the family encourages donations to a veteran's charity of choice, celebrating his service and commitment.
Rest in peace, Robert Duane Heffernan. Your legacy and memories will live on in the hearts of all who knew you.
