Robert H. Ripley's Obituary
Robert H. Ripley Born on April 25, 1918; passed away on October 9, 2012 at the age of 94. He was a member of The Greatest Generation, a veteran of the US Navy serving in the South Pacific on the Attack Transport USS Briscoe, APA-65. Dad graduated from Stadium High School in 1936, and subsequently went to work for the Douglas Fir Plywood Association (now the American Plywood Association) in 1938. Except for his military service, the Plywood Association was his only employer; he retired in 1978 at Director of the Division for Product Acceptance. Dad met a young secretary working for the Plywood Association, Maxine A. Eldridge, and they married on March 30, 1940. They were married for 63 years until she preceded him in death in October of 2003. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved to hunt, fish, camp, and hike. He also cajoled our mom, a young girl from Minnesota, into the experience of hiking and backpacking the mountains of the Northwest (that stopped when children arrived). He introduced our family to the joys and adventures of camping throughout the Northwest from an early age. He and Mom also enjoyed boating, exploring the waters of Puget Sound and cruising to the San Juans and as far North as Desolation Sound. In retirement, they traveled extensively throughout the country in their little travel trailer, and also enjoyed going on several cruises. Dad is survived by his three children, Janet Palmer, Rob (Marie), and Ron (Una), together with 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his integrity, strong sense of personal responsibility, and love of family. He will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Sunday, October 21, 2012 in the Mountain View Celebration of Life Center.
