Robert Lee Gitt's Obituary
Robert Lee Gitt (Bob) was born November 4th, 1935 and passed away at his Puyallup home after a 7 year battle with lung cancer on August 21st, 2014.
Bob was born in Hildreth, NE to Lee and Marie Gitt and was the youngest of 9 children. Shortly after, they moved to Gibbon, NE where he attended elementary school. In 1947 the family moved to Puyallup, WA where he attended Puyallup Jr/Sr High School.
Bob had a great sense of humor, telling his variety of jokes to anyone who was around. He enjoyed making people laugh and smile. He also loved to tease anyone who would come his way.
He loved phone calls from his children and grandchildren and loved for them to all visit. This would always put a big smile on his face.
Bob loved football, especially the Seahawks and was finally able to see them win their first super bowl. He would also love to place bets during football season and would always take the underdog. When he lost, he would pay the money all in pennies, sometimes all taped together. He was a jokester at heart.
Bob was a loving, kind, and compassionate man who was full of wisdom. He taught his children the value of hard work and how to live life to its fullest.
He loved camping, fishing, and woodworking in his earlier years.
He worked at Safeway after high school for 15 years, Marie’s Dressing after that and finally he drove truck for Gitt Brothers/Tacoma Bark Supply until retirement. Driving Truck was one of his most favorite things to do.
Bob lived in Puyallup with his companion Barbara Whitley. He and Barbara attended All Saints Catholic Church in Puyallup and they loved to “head South” to their home in Indio, CA to spend their winters.
He is survived by his 3 children, Daryl Lee (Bonnie), Dennis Allan, and Donna Jean Gradin (John), 3 Grandchildren, Joshua Lee Gitt, Brittany Ann Gitt and Jennifer Nicole Gradin, 4 great grandsons, 1 great granddaughter, 1 brother, 1 sister, his loving companion Barbara Whitley, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by 2 great-grandchildren, 6 siblings and wife Donna.
Graveside services will be held Friday Sept. 5th at 12:30pm at Mountain View Funeral Home in the Rose Garden. Prior to services, please gather in the Forest Room at the Mountain View office.
