Robert Gerald Mitchell's Obituary
Robert Gerald Mitchell passed away peacefully, surrounded by his three children, on March 27, 2010. Born and raised in Tacoma, he married Eleanor Johnson in 1940, with whom he shared 59 years. He proudly served in the Navy during WWII and the Korean War. Bob loved life and his God. He was an active member of South Lakeshore Christian Church and service organizations, Military Order of World Wars (MOWW), Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), and National Sojourners. He became an Eagle Scout as a teen. He attended Pacific Lutheran University. He worked as a longshoreman as a young man and, following his military service, he worked as a stationary engineer for the Tacoma Public Schools. He was a loving and devoted father, setting an example for his family. He doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, William Mitchell (Susan), daughters Gail Berg (Daryl), and Jennie Albertson (David), 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at South Lakeshore Christian Church on Thursday, April 1 at 2 pm, following a private burial. Viewing will be at Mountain View Funeral Home, Wednesday 1-9 pm and Thursday 8 am- noon.
