June 7, 1926 B October 3. 2008
Bob Mills passed away peacefully after a short illness with Leukemia. He served in the Navy during WWII as a radioman, being wounded twice. He often told amusing stories, many of which centered on his time on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific. After the war he returned to Tacoma and graduated from the University of Puget Sound where he met his wife of 46 years, Ila Jane. While attending UPS he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity where he made many of his lifelong friends. Bob gave back to the City of Fircrest he loved by serving as mayor and on the town council for over twenty years. His focus was on parks and recreation which continue to make Fircrest the wonderful community it is today. Bob loved the friends and family time spent at the cabin on Vashon Island. He was a competitive tennis player into his 60's winning many local tournaments. Bob was a generous and loving father. He is survived by his two children, son Steve (Evelyn) and daughter Cindy Johnson (Clarke) and three grandchildren Carrie Mills-Tank (Brian), Ryan and Kelly Johnson. He will also be greatly missed by his friend Delores Dugger. Bob will be remembered by many for his humor and kindness. He truly left this world a better place. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at University Place Presbyterian Church, 8101 27th St W. Monday, October 20th at 2:00 PM. Reception at Fircrest Golf Club following.
