Robert D. SeidelRobert D. Seidel, 88, of University Place, Washington, passed away on January 4, 2004. Bob was born on November 17, 1915 in Ainsworth, Nebraska, to Rueben and Elta (Faust) Seidel. He lived his youth years in several small towns in eastern Nebraska, graduated from high school in Seward, Nebraska in 1933, and then graduated from the University of Nebraska in January 1941. As a young man he was active in Lutheran youth groups, in Boy Scouts, and from high school through his adult years played trumpet in award winning bands.After graduation from the University, Bob enlisted in the Army to satisfy the one year draft. He married Eva Mae Cromwell in Paso Robles, California on June 8, 1941. Two months before he was discharged from the Army, Pearl Harbor was bombed. He continued his military career, trained troops, served in Europe during World War II and also in the Korean War. Bob was awarded two bronze stars during his Korean service. After Korea, he went to Japan where his wife and family joined him and he worked with Comptroller at the Camp Zama Headquarters. Following his twenty years of military duty, Bob worked in finance and computer processing for the Civil Service. His activities, after he retired, included real estate and remodeling homes. He had many skills and enjoyed numerous hobbies, music, photography, wood working, wood carving, and boating. He was a member of the University Place Presbyterian Church, the Tacoma Elks, Tacoma Yacht Club, and the TAPCUG Computer Club.Bob is survived by his wife, Eva, sons Dean and Jim of Tacoma, and daughter Deanna Collins of Bedminster, Pennsylvania, a brother Ray of Wichita Falls, Texas, and a sister Ruth Hafemeister of Leavenworth, Kansas, also grandchildren Matt Collins, Zachary Seidel, Devon Burns, Laura Merkel, and great-granddaughter Phoebe Collins. The family suggests remembrances be made in RobertÂ's name to the Tacoma Youth Symphony, Habitat for Humanity or a charity of your choice. There will be a private family service.
