Robert "Bob" William Burns' Obituary
Robert “Bob” William Burns passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025 in Olympia, Washington with family by his side. He was born in Tacoma, Washington on July 15, 1928 to the late Orville Edward and Fannie Sophia Burns. Bob graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947 and worked at Boeing in Seattle and the Hanford Facility in Richland. He married Betty Lou Cosand on February 12, 1949 and they were married over 70 years until her death on January 3, 2020. Together, they traveled the world, after visiting every U.S. state in their motorhome. Bob retired from the City of Tacoma, Public Utilities, as the Purchasing and Stores Manager in 1986. He was an avid sailor and had a Coast Guard License for 30 years. He served as a Captain on the Scout-owned sailing vessel, Odyssey, a 90’ yawl. Bob and Betty had 2 children, Gary Robert and Linda Gail. They enjoyed boating, water skiing and snow skiing as a family. Tragically, Gary was killed at the age of 16, when the car he was driving was hit by a drunk driver. Bob is also predeceased by his daughter, Linda. He is survived by his granddaughters Nicole (Sam) Minor and Angela (Darrell) Lowe; great grandchildren Serena Getz, Curtis (Alexus) James, Jordan (Mikala) James, Christian Getz, Austin Langer, Darrell Lowe, Jr.; and great-great grandchildren Dakota Reich, Sophia James, Jesse James and Hendrix Widger. Graveside services will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home on August 14, 2025 at 1:30pm.
