Robert John Burgess' Obituary
Robert J. Burgess was born September 24, 1935. He was born in Utica, New York to John and Margaret Burgess. Graduated from Utica Free Academy in 1954. Honorably discharged from the US Army in 1957. He met his wife, Sandra, in 1956 and shared their life together for 62 years. Attended Western Washington College graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1960. He attended five summer advanced study math institutes in Reno, Nevada, Corvallis, Oregon, and Portland, Oregon. Retired from teaching in 1996 from Tacoma School District. During his teaching career he and the family traveled to Oahu, Hawaii where he taught mathematics. at St. Louise Private Academy and College where he also enjoyed coaching football , wrestling, and track. He enjoyed many sports, handball, baseball, racquet ball, soccer, and of course golf. Bob was a member of the Elks Lodge, Oakbrook Country Club and Union Hall Hills Country Club in Sun City, AZ. He and Sandra loved their golf and played in many couple's tournaments all over Washington where they made some wonderful friends. He was very proud of his 16 holes in one during his golf career. Bob is survived by his wife Sandra, daughter Vicki Medak (Tom), son Robert (Carol). Granddaughter Tina, Grandson John (Charlotte) and three Great grandchildren, brother John (Linda) and was preceded in death by son Frank. He is now on the 1st hole at the big golf course in the sky. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Parkinson's Foundation would be appreciated.
