Robert John Adler's Obituary
Robert John Adler, Sr. Dec. 19, 1926 - March 16, 2017
Robert John Adler, Sr. passed peacefully into his next life Thursday, March 16, 2017, surrounded by family. He was born to John And Elizabeth Adler in Tacoma, WA on December 19th, 1926. Raised in Puyallup, he graduated from Puyallup High School in 1945, and married Betty Satterlee soon after. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy, and quickly joined the workforce after he was discharged. His career was in the paper business, starting at Standard Paper then Allied Paper, and retired as a Regional Sales Manager with West Coast Paper.
As a man who took pride in his work, he took just as much leisure time with his family. Road trips, fishing outings, and camping were all part of their holidays with their three young children. Later in life, he and Betty would winter in Palm Springs, while summers were spent at their beach house in Gig Harbor, teaching the grandchildren boating and fishing.
Bob used his standing in his community to give back. He loved to volunteer to charitable causes. If it wasn’t a check, he was donating his time to organizations like the Puyallup Elks, Puyallup Fair White Hat Club, Tacoma Yacht Club, and was a donor to numerous other national organizations. He was also a lifelong Rotarian with the Sunrise Rotary chapter. In retirement, he never missed a meeting and would beam with pride as he listed the club’s accomplishments. He would also humbly admit that he was a founding member of the LeMay Car Museum, which combined his love of cars with philanthropy. You could find him on many days behind the counter of his sons’ business, Pacific Corvette, sharing his wisdom and passion for car culture.
He will be fondly remembered by his friends as a man of honesty, integrity, and generosity, and he will be remembered by his family as a true patriarch, leading by example. Bob was preceded by his parents, his Brother Donald, and his beloved wife, Betty, to whom he was married for 62 years. He is survived by his three children, Bob Jr., Bill, and Beckie. He also leaves grandchildren, Jonathan, Tom, Andrew, R.J., Kevin, and Amy; daughters-in-law Amanda Allpress Adler and Tori Rogel Schneider; and one great-granddaughter, Nova.
Services will be held at 1 PM, Friday, April 7th, 2017 in the Mountain View Valley Chapel. Remembrances can be made to the Tacoma Sunrise Rotary Scholarship Fund, PO Box 900, Tacoma, WA 98401 or Mary Bridge Children’s Foundation, PO Box 5296, Tacoma, WA 98415
