Robert A. Newkirk's Obituary
Bob, a 47 year resident of Tacoma, Wa., was born in Leonardsburg, Ohio to Harley and Spray Newkirk. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Eunice E. (Evie) Newkirk and sister Virginia Hefly. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor and served 21 years on the following vessels. The Battleship USS Pennsylvania (BB-38), and the following submarines. DBF. USS Sea Robin (SS-407), USS Sennet (SS-408), USS Picuda (SS-382) and the S-48 (SS-159). He also sailed a captured German U-boat back to the states from So. America. He worked at Boeing for 10 years after the service. He is survived by 3 sons, Robert H., Jeffory B., (DOT) and Scott 0., (Lori). 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and outdoor activities. After retiring he spent many years traveling South for the winters (snowbird). Graveside services will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Mountain View Funeral Home. A reception celebrating BobÂ's life will be held at the family home immediately following the service.
