Robert A. Hokenson's Obituary
Robert Andrew Hokenson passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 in his lifelong home of Tacoma, Washington. He is preceded in death by his parents Roger and Birdie, sisters Mary, Ida and Viola, brother Paul and son-in-law Ed Loughrey. Born on July 27, 1922, Robert attended Lincoln High School where he met the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Virginia Stark. During their earlier years of marriage, Robert served his country in the Navy. When he returned from World War II, Robert became a member of the Tacoma Fire Department. For 26 years he served his community, retiring as Lieutenant of the Tacoma Fireboat in 1973. Once retired, Robert enjoyed two of his great passions -- gardening and woodworking. With a world class sense of humor, he could bring a room to tears with his stories and jokes. Family is what made Robert most happy. No man spent as much time caring for his family. Robert is survived by his loving wife Virginia, daughters Susan Loughrey and Wendy Winger (Mike), grandchildren Andy (Megan), Amy (Chris) and Bryan and great-grandchildren Emma, Ainsley, Mason and Kate. Robert also leaves behind his brother Peter, sister Ann and many nieces and nephews he loved very much. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service in the Aspen Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood on Saturday, January 23 at 11:00 a.m. A viewing is also scheduled at Mountain View on Friday, January 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
