On Monday morning, November 7, 2011, Robbie Jean Littles Beasley peacefully went home to be with the Lord. The beloved, Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt and Friend to many was a caring and special person and was a joy to many that was touch by her blessed life.
Robbie Jean was born in Palestine, Texas on August 17, 1938 to the late Robert and Elizabeth Littles. Robbie Jean attended school in Palestine briefly before moving to Tacoma in 1945 with her family. She attended McCarver Jr. High in Tacoma and graduated from Stadium High School in 1957. After briefly attending Wilberforce University, she came home to be closer to family and finished her education at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma and Graduated in 1972. Robbie Jean loved children and found her reward in education and taught for Tacoma Public School District teaching elementary education at McCarver, Rodgers, Wainwright, and Bryant Elementary Schools. Her passion was teaching and was devoted to children and about education being a gateway for a better future. She retired from teaching in 2005, after teaching 32 years of service.
Robbie was a God-Fearing woman always in good spirits. She was a devoted member of Allen African Methodist Church for over 25 years, serving on the Senior Usher Board, Lay Organization and Missionary Society. She was very active in the community. Since 1985 was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., and in 1995 became a member of Tacoma's Matrons Club. She also served on the board of the Phoebe House, a Women's Shelter for mothers and children impacted by substance abuse.
In addition to teaching she also kept busy with two side businesses. She continued her families' legacy by founding Bob's Bar-BBQ Too catering, which her parents started when they move to Tacoma from Palestine. She and her husband and children did many festivals around Western Washington including the Taste of Tacoma, the Destiny Fest, the Seattle Goodwill Games in 1990 and for 21 years was a staple vendor at Tacoma's Ethnic Fest at Wright's Park. She also had a love for fashion, and found her niche' in selling designer hats. She quickly became known as The Hat Lady of Tacoma. She sold many hats to the Saints in her and neighboring churches in the Pacific Northwest area for 16yrs.
She was fortunate to meet her soul mate in 1975 and married Richard Beasley of Lexington, Ky. Robbie was blessed with three adoring children, Kimberly Dawn Jackson, [Charles], Robert Lee McLendon and Elizabeth Geneva Beasley all reside in Tacoma. One Sister Carolyn (Kay) Littles of Tacoma, four Grandchildren Emerald, David, Charles III, Niya, and one Great-Grandson Charles IV. One Aunt Mildred Reed (Archie) of Washington D.C. One Uncle Joe Harris of Las Vegas, NV. Three Sister-in-Laws Anna Margaret Raglin (Earl B), Mary Joyce Raglin (James), and Alice May Taylor (Russell) of Midway, KY. Two Brother-in-laws Rev. William Beasley (Josephine) of Versailles, KY and Floyd Clark of Tacoma. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; all whom she loved and was extremely fond of. She will be greatly missed by her family.
Robbie Jean was a beautiful woman with a humble spirit and unforgettable smile, enriched many lives. Her spirit at last has been set free from illness and earthly constraints and she has taken her place to be with the Lord, for he loved her best. We are all blessed and grateful for the time we have had with her and thankful to have loved her.
