I was so sorry to read of Roald's death in the TNT. I enjoyed my visits with him while he was still in the mobile home after his bout with dizziness. He had such interesting stories to tell about his life and his family. I wish I could have known him in his prime. I know you will all miss him terribly. May God give you comfort and fill you with His peace that passes all human understanding.

We are so very thankful for the "Joy" that Grandpa brought to our lives. His love for the Lord, his encouragement, wisdom and compassion for life, family and friends was immeasurable. His service to his country was honorable. He loved
unconditionally and gracefully accepted each one of us. He shared the burdens and the blessings and he was the sunshine in the rain.
Life as we knew it is different.
We will miss his presence, his sparkle, his laughter, his expressions, and his smile. We are comforted knowing that his legacy will live on and that Grandpa and Grandma are together. We Love You........

My sincere condolences to Hal's family. It was my privilege to have worked with him last year after his hip surgery, both at my physical therapy clinic and at his apartment at Willows. He was a delight, equal parts stubborn Norwegian and quick-witted comedian, and obviously much loved by his family and friends. I remember Roald during my years as a child growing up. He was a kind, considerate, gentle and hard working man. I have thought of him often and wish I had paid him a visit. Now it is too late. My deepest sympathy goes out to his entire family.

Grandpa Halmo, You are gentle and kind, soft spoken with a quick wit that would often surprise me and charge that twinkle in your eyes. I know you missed Opal and now you are with her. I am so thankful for the owl that caught my attention on my way home the last night I visited with you. I turned the car around to get a better look. I decided after I turned around that I must go back and see you one more time. That last visit we held hands and you rubbed my hand as I stroked yours it was so nice. Then I remembered Grandma Opal collected many owls that family and friends brought to her. Was that you Grandma? Were you encouraging that owl to catch my attention? Thank you God for one more visit. Our hearts go out to your families. I can only imagine how Grandpa impacted your lives over the years as he affected especially mine when I grew to love Kartha as a best friend. From 1988-1991, we were stationed at Ft. Lewis. Kartha's family was my 2nd family while my husband was in Korea for over a year while our son was an infant/toddler. I remember many family dinners at Grandpa Roald and Grandma Opal's home in Puyallup and Sunday AM breakfasts at his favorite restaurant. We were so blessed to be welcomed warmly each time. Roald was a special man who cared for everyone and always had his heart and home open to all. His love of life, family, and friends had no boundaries. He loved his country and his Norwegian heritage.
