Rita I. Hammett's Obituary
Rita (Boulden) Hammett
Rita was a loving wife and mother who passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2011. While Alzheimer's clouded her last years, she will be remembered as a wonderful Christian wife, mother, and teacher.
Rita was born in Elma, WA on October 29, 1927 and raised in Bordeaux, a small rural logging town near Littlerock, WA. After college and the beginning of her teaching career, Rita married Tom Hammett in 1959. They shared over 50 years of marriage and raised two children, Scott (Chris) Hammett and Lisa Hammett. Rita was a caring mother who loved her children and adored her grandchildren Kryin, Kylie and Joshua.
Rita was a life-long teacher. First educating her own children, then teaching Sunday school and was a dedicated public school teacher in the Tacoma school district for over 20 years. After retirement, she enjoyed church, traveling, music, sewing, collecting dolls, and her grandchildren.
While we will miss our mother and wife, as a family of faith, we know that she is now healed and with her heavenly Father and we have the hope of seeing her again.
We would like to thank Pioneer Place of Tacoma and Franciscan Hospice Care for their gracious care of Rita in her final days.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in the Mountain View Garden Chapel with a reception to follow. Charitable donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
