Dr. Ouhl was my dentist since high school in the 80's. I tried some cheap places after I was married but they were horrible, My oldest son said they hurt him and wanted to go back to Dr. Ouhl. So I came back and appreciated the thorough work and care I got from his dental office. After outgrowing the children's dentist my other two enjoyed going to his office also. Thank you, so sorry for your loss. We will miss him and his high quality care.
I've known Rick since he became my dentist shortly after I started working at PLU in 1983, which means over 35 years. Even after I moved to Texas 10 years ago, my wife and I would come in for our checkups and dental work (me, not my wife, who has perfect teeth!) on our visits home. He was always the kindest person, always remembered who you were and what you were doing and ask questions, as would I to catch up.My deepest condolences to his family and their extraordinary loss.

You will be missed. You helped me out with my bridge years ago. We always said hi to one another when we were both outside of our offices. From my family to your we are sorry.

Dr. Ouhl has been my dentist for 40 years. He was one of my favorite people. He was always positive and friendly. He always asked how me and my family were doing. He loved dogs which is mandatory to be on my "nice" list. He was a great dentist who always put the patient first. He didn't just try to make more money. He would give me choices and let me decide what I wanted to do. I always thought that he was a man of great integrity and caring for other people. You know he had to be a great boss because his employees stuck around for a long time. I am very shocked and sad that he is gone but I am glad I got to see him a couple of months ago. I asked him if he was going to retire soon and he told me that he had grown up in dental offices and had no plans to retire. Things must have change very fast.
To Rick's wife and kids: I am so sorry for your loss. The grief of losing a spouse or parent can last a long time so give yourself a break and let people help you. They want to help and it makes them feel better too. I don't know if it ever completely stops hurting as my husband died of cancer 2 1/2 years ago and I still miss him terribly. It still hurts and it really haven't gotten myself back together yet. My husband was Rick also.
I am beyond words to find out Dr Ouhl is no longer here. I was a patient of his for over 17 years and he was the most pleasant man I have ever known and observed the passion he had for his family, dogs, practice and patients. I was planning on continuing to drive here after I retire and move to Oregon in the next year or two because I didn't want to find another dentist and keep comparing them to the dentist who would spend the time going over a difficult decision and assure me that he would see me through it and make sure I was 100% happy with the outcome. There is such sadness in my heart right now that the world lost such a wonderful man and my prayers go to his family and closest friends and staff. God bless you Dr Ouhl for the impact you had on so many lives.
How does one express the lost of one of the most gentle and caring man I have know. Dr. Ouhl was always there to share our family stories every time we meet, I will miss those conversations like "How's Pam doing at the country club, and is Kimmy still teaching in Tacoma, you still selling those batteries". We talked about vacations and his family as well. And those wild and funny neck ties, the duck pictures on the walls. We have lost a good friend and out hearts are sadden.
