Richard F. Setbacken
Richard “Dick” F. Setbacken, 70, of Tacoma passed away on July 1, 2015. Born on March 12, 1945 in Toppenish, WA to Vance and Evelyn Setbacken, Dick was retired from the Computer Department of the Washington State Patrol where he worked for 26 years. Dick is survived by his wife of 45 years, Esther “Jean” Setbacken. He is also survived by his sisters Sandy Benson of Tacoma and Rhonda Benson of Graham, WA, two daughters, Teri Shorter (Eric) of Lacey, WA and Marcia Setbacken of Tacoma, one niece and two nephews. Dick attended elementary school in Tacoma and graduated from Bethel High School in Spanaway, WA. He played basketball in high school but baseball was the love of his life. Before “kids” he played slow pitch. While he was working for WSP and during retirement, he umpired slow pitch and girls fast pitch for 14 years. He spent most of his life in the Tacoma area. He loved watching sports of all kinds on TV and actively worked on his sports card collection. He also enjoyed gardening.
A celebration of his life service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home in the Garden Chapel in Lakewood, Thursday, July 9, 2015, at noon. Viewing will be the day before, also at Mountain View. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home.
