Richard S. Johnson's Obituary
Richard S. Johnson
Mr. Richard S. Johnson died peacefully on 25 Oct 2011 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Tacoma. Born 1 Oct 1924, Richard was a lifelong resident of Tacoma. His parents (Axel and Elizabeth) were from Sweden and immigrated to the United States in the early 1900's. Richard grew up in the Hawthorne area where the Tacoma Dome sits today and spent most of his working years at a local plywood company near the waterfront. Fluent in Swedish, Richard was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to the radio. He also had a keen interest in automobiles and collected several over the years. Rich frequently took long drives throughout Tacoma and surrounding areas stopping at different restaurants to enjoy a good meal. Richard is survived by many relatives in the United States as well as Sweden. He maintained a life long friendship with his cousin Mrs. Doris Kilgore, and a close relationship with cousins Vickie, Lisa, Gary and Tom. Recently celebrating his 87th birthday with family members, Richard will be missed for his dry humor, quiet demeanor and knowledge of history.
