Richard Palamidessi's Obituary
"Coach" Richard (Dick) Palamidessi joined his beautiful wife on Sunday, May 15th, 2011. Born March 5th, 1931, he lived all his life in Tacoma. Dad was a graduate of Lincoln High School, class of '49. During his years at Lincoln he displayed his athletic prowess in basketball and baseball. In 1953 he married his high-school sweetheart, with whom he shared 51 wonderful years. Upon returning home from service in the U.S. Army, he enrolled in the University of Puget Sound, where he received his degree in Education. His first teaching position started at Gault Jr. High School, where he taught Social Studies. His ambition to become a Physical Education teacher brought him to Wilson High School. An accomplished athlete, it was fitting for him to coach. He led the Wilson Rams to many victories in basketball and baseball. He retired in 1985 as head of the Physical Education Department and Athletic Director. He enjoyed his retirement years golfing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. Dad was preceded in death by his loving wife Pat, his parents Nello and Gena Palamidessi, and brother David. He is survived by his devoted daughter Susan (Tom) Redding of Tacoma, son Richard of Oregon, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. My fondest hope is that his legacy will live on through his students and loved ones for the positive influence and wisdom this wonderful man bestowed. Our sincere thanks to the staff at the Weatherly Inn and Franciscan Hospice for their compassionate care over the last three years. At Dad's request a private burial was held. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home.
