Richard H. Horning's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of (Retired) MSGT Richard H. Horning, 88, a beloved husband, father, and Papa to many. Richard is survived by his wife, Vicki, and her 3 daughters, his 4 children from his first marriage, his devoted brother, Larry, and sister, Bonnie, 24 grandchildren, and 40 great grandchildren, with one on the way, with a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly. Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Imogene Horning, his son, Richard A., grandson, Alan A. Horning, and brother, Wayne Horning.
Richard departed from this world in the early hours of June 10, 2024.
Born on October 26, 1935, in Canajoharie, NY, Beverly Charles and Alice Horning. He exhibited a remarkable zest for life and an unwavering dedication to those around him. His infectious laughter and warm demeanor endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Richard's professional life was marked by excellence and integrity. He embarked on a successful career in United States Army, where his passion for police work shone brightly. Also, becoming an elite member of the Army Special Forces Green Beret. His colleagues admired his keen intellect, strong work ethic, and willingness to go above and beyond for the greater good. He cherished every moment spent with his family. He simply loved sharing his life stories with all that would listen. His love and support were unwavering.
He was also a cherished member of our community, known for his generosity and willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need. Whether he was helping others work on their vehicles, or just shooting the breeze drinking coffee in his "office", the garage. In his free time, Richard enjoyed riding his motorcycles, finding solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. Richard found beauty in every moment and embraced life with an open heart.
Though Richard may no longer walk among us, his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched and the memories he created. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and compassion that will continue to inspire us all.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held on June 24, 2024, 2:00pm at Bible Baptist Church of Puyallup, 12307 Canyon Road E, Puyallup, WA. With viewing at from 9:00am-1:00pm Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd, SW, Lakewood, WA
