Richard Lee Fuson's Obituary
On April 15, 2017, Richard Lee Fuson, known to friends as “Rick” and to his children as “dad,” passed away at the age of 63 years.
Born in Spokane, WA, to Betty and Miles Fuson, Rick lived his childhood through college years in Tacoma, WA, graduated with a BS in Landscape Architecture from Washington State University in 1976, and was an avid Cougar fan. Married to and then lifelong friends with Carolyn Cruver from 1977 to 2013, he lived in Bellevue and Redmond, WA.
Rick and Carolyn have two children, Jessica Susan Fuson Barrett (Brian), Kirkland, WA, and Kyle Loren Fuson (Jennifer), Seattle, WA. Rick’s love for his family was deep and profound: he attended every concert, play, and sporting event; coached Kyle’s baseball team; became a certified scuba diver with Jess; and golfed with both Jess and Kyle.
A long-time builder, Rick was a construction superintendent for decades and ran his own company for 7 years in the 1980s. He could build anything, and did—from a tribal community center in Pt. Lay, AK to upscale home remodels on Mercer Island, WA—if he built it, it was done well. “Measure twice, cut once” was more than a motto, it was how he approached life: plan, check, then do.
An avid member of the Seattle Pétanque Club, Rick could often be seen at local weekly games as well as at events hosted by the Edmonds and Portland Pétanque Clubs.
Rick leaves behind Carolyn, his two children Jessica (Brian) and Kyle (Jennifer), mother Betty, Brothers Steve (Diane) and Doug (Linda), and multiple nieces, nephews, in-laws, family, and friends. Rick was predeceased by his father Miles, brother Don, sister-in-law Jan, and nephew Dwayne. Rick will be missed and remembered with love.
Remembrance services will be held May 20, 2017 at Mountain View Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Lakewood, WA. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to Habitat for Humanity (habitatskc.org).
