My Uncle Rick was an amazing man! He was so full of love and humor! One of my earliest memories with him was “talking” with his Turkey-bird pet bird. It was almost like he was Dr. Dolittle. Lol He had such a love for animals, furry or feathered.
Music was always such a big part of the family. Uncle Rick kept us entertained with his renditions of different songs. My favorite was his version of “honk, honk, rattle, rattle, crash beep beep”. I can still picture him and his very animated version of that. Not long after moving away from Washington I heard the song “King of the Road”. I immediately had to call and talk to him. We had such a great conversation that day. That song has and always will remind me of him.
I know he is in Heaven keeping the angels entertained with my auntie by his side. I can hear it now when he gets a little out of line and my auntie giving him the “Richard!” and him responding with that different voice he would use when talking to his “Missy”. Their love story was one for the ages. It was a true example of what love really is; unconditional, hard work, sacrifice and standing by one another in the good times and bad.
