To Richard's Family,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Richard was always such a joy to have around. I can remember as a child going to my grandma, Hilkka's, house, and he would bring over a big box of donuts for us. He would laugh and joke around, and always have a big smile on his face. He always seemed like a very, happy man. My condolences go out to you and your family. He will never be forgotten.

To the family of Dick Nelson,
My sister Marianne and I have many great memories of our early years on McKinley Hill, growing up with Dicky and Barbara,(don't remember when we started calling him Dick) and later Bobby. We had many family get-togethers and fun times at each of our homes. Pearl and Ole were a great couple and wonderful aunt and uncle. The years have flown by, but we will always remember Dicks' broad mischievous smile and gentle manner. Our sincerest sympathy to his family.

Sad............. Dick and I really did a lot together during our short friendship in the early '60's.

On one of our outings to the high Cascades he decided the weather was too hot so he actually dove into one of those icy creeks way up high. On the way home, over Snoqualmie Pass, he became very ill. I had to drive. Every time the road had a bump in it-- it made him sick to his stomach and I had to stop for him. Finally I took him to the hospital along I-90 by North Bend. It turned out he had an appendix attack........ I just knew it was initiated by jumping into that icy creek..........(in my mind anyway). His girls may remember that?

I will always remember him as a good friend and great outdoors men. We really did a lot together. Here is a couple pictures from one of our hikes into Lower Lena then to Upper Lena and on to Scout Lake--a total of 12 miles into the Olympics. Dick took the one of me standing with Lena Peak in the back ground. We both hiked to the top of that peak. I remember placing my business card in a glass jar that was on the top. The other picture is Dick walking ahead of me from Scout Lake to a small lake above--Milk Creek, it's running from Milk Lake down into Scout Lake. I am sure it was his idea to explore that lake too!!!Please share this email with Dick's girls and anyone else you think would like to see it................

There is nothing i enjoy more than riding my motorcycle, Richard was the first person who took me on one. The day i bought my own bike he came right over to show me to to ride it. He taught me how to ride a bicycle, how to conoe, kyak, climb trees... bought me my first skateboard.. everything i love doing, he started. he even tried to teach me how to jump off a roof without breaking something...mom came out to stop it before my attempt. He was everything and more someone could want and need in a dad. Laura, you are so blessed to have gone on so many amazing adventures with him. As soon as he got back from them he would come over and show us all the pictures and tell my mom and i all about your guys' trip. I would love to meet you, im sure we could spend hours swaping stories. My condolences go out to all of his family. Dick and I were cuzins on Pearl's side and we also enjoyed many good times with the family. I was Bobby's age and hung out with Bobby until I entered the Navy. Dick took Bobby and I out to the hills once to shoot his rifle which really impressed Bobby and I. Our families have gone our seperate ways in the last 50 years now that all the Mom's and Dad's have passed away and my last contact with Dick was a nice telephone conversation a few years ago with Dick up in Sequim and we were living in Hansville, WA. Barb...my sister Nancy called me to tell me of Dick's passing and you may see Nancy at the funeral. My wife and I will be out of town and will miss you, but I want to express my condolences for your loss from your younger cuzin who used to bug you when Bobby and I were up to our pranks.
