Richard Glen Brush's Obituary
Richard Glen Brush, 57, passed away on June 28, 2014 in Tacoma, WA, due to complications from Myotonic Dystrophy. He was born in Tacoma on August 15, 1956 to Glen Rual Brush and Ann Laurine (Cox) Brush.
After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1975, he worked in the building maintenance trade for several Tacoma area companies.
Richard never married, but he lived a full life. In his younger days he liked traveling and camping with the family around the Northwest, and a special highlight of his summers was going with Mom and Dad to the annual Postal Carriers Picnic. When he was older he enjoyed spending time with family and friends for holidays and other events, and he looked forward to a vacation at Ocean Shores nearly every year. After he moved to Park Rose, he would show his visitors all his newly received cards and letters, and then invite them to a spirited game of Yahtzee. Somehow the odds of winning were usually in his favor!
Richard was a long time fan of the Tacoma Rainiers, enjoying many of their home games in the company of his friends, until the MD no longer allowed him to attend. He also enjoyed Seattle Mariners games, and one of his hobbies was collecting team memorabilia.
He is survived by his brother David Brush (Patricia); sisters Lori Murphy, brother-in-law Buck, and Alice Windham (Tom); nephews Christopher Brush and Derek Murphy; nieces Tiffany and Kristine Brush and Kelsey Murphy, great nephews Christopher Brush, and Andrew Brush, great niece Alexia Brush; dear cousin Judy Lund; his long time friend Glenn Bock and numerous other relatives. Richard was preceded in death by both of his parents and his cousin Kathy Urlacher.
Richard was a son, a brother, a cousin, an uncle, a great uncle, a nephew or a friend to everyone he knew. He will be sorely missed and dearly remembered.
The family would like to thank Richard’s doctors and the wonderful staff at Park Rose Care Center and at Lutheran Community Services Northwest for his care during his final days.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a future date.
The family requests any donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, or your favorite charity.
