Richard Paul Blizzard's Obituary
Rich Blizzard was born in the beach town of Rehoboth, Delaware in 1938. The oldest of seven children, he was very athletic in high school and continued to be very active most of his life. After high school, he joined the Army where he served for 34 years and retired as a Sergeant Major. He was married for 58 years to Hwa Chin, whom he met while stationed in Korea. They have one daughter, Michelle who lives close by in Puyallup with her husband Jason.
After a long career with the Army, he decided to retire to Washington state. He worked for ten years as the Sports Director at the McChord AFB Youth Center before finally fully retiring in 2001. He enjoyed staying active by playing many rounds of golf every week at the Whispering Firs Golf course, working in the yard and traveling to a number of National Parks with their close friends.
He passed away on June 1, 2024 after a long battle with dementia and additional digestive complications.
He is survived by his wife Hwa Chin, daughter Michelle and son in law Jason and brothers Howard and Douglas and sisters Tudy and Pamela. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Joyce and Linda.
Funeral services will be held on June 26, 2024 at 1pm at Tahoma National Cemetery.
